SUMMARY

When you are using Microsoft Office version 4.0, the Microsoft Office Assistant version 1.0 icon may not appear on the Microsoft Office Manager (MOM) toolbar immediately after you install Microsoft Office Assistant.

Using the Setup program provided with Microsoft Office Assistant version 1.0 to remove all its components will not remove the icon, either from the toolbar or from the customized menu.

NOTE: If you attempt to delete the Microsoft Office Assistant icon from the MOM toolbar before using the Setup program to remove all the Microsoft Office Assistant components, you will receive an error message when you click the icon (or the blank button identified as Microsoft Office Assistant).

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, close and reopen the MOM toolbar to activate the Microsoft Office Assistant icon. Use the Setup program to remove the Microsoft Office Assistant components and then manually remove the custom menu entry and the toolbar icon.

MORE INFORMATION

The MOM toolbar is not updated until it has been closed and reopened. The Setup program for Microsoft Office Assistant will not remove the icon from the toolbar nor will it remove the menu item from the MOM menu.
