SUMMARY
When you install Microsoft Office, the MSAPPS directory will automatically
be installed as a subdirectory of the Windows directory in versions 4.0,
4.2 and 4.3. In version 7.0, the shared applications are installed in
c:\program files\common files which is the default location. You will not
be prompted to specify a location for this directory.
MORE INFORMATION
The MSAPPS or common files directory contain applications that are shared
among Microsoft programs. They include spelling tools, Clip Art gallery,
and so on. All Microsoft programs look to this directory location for these
shared applications.
This behavior is by design of Microsoft Office to help to guarantee
compatibility for Microsoft Office products.
