The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 3.x, 4.x, 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 3.x, 4.x, 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows NT, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

When you are working in a Microsoft Excel worksheet and you create a line that extends between two pages of the worksheet, the line will extend below the bottom border when you look at it in print preview and on the print out. This problem will occur under the following circumstances:

  • You are using borders rather than gridlines (that is, gridlines are turned off and you are using the border feature to create an outline).

    -or-

  • You are using a bottom border on the bottom of the page.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this problem, do either of the following:

  • Create separate lines, and use only one per page so that the lines do not cross over page breaks.

    -or-

  • Turn on gridlines, and cover over unwanted gridlines by using the Border command and setting the color of these border lines to white.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
