PRA: New Record Button Unavailable in Forms

    The information in this article applies to:

    SYMPTOMS

    Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

    The New button on the toolbar, which you can use to add a new record, is sometimes unavailable (appears dimmed) in a form.

    STATUS

    Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access version 2.0. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0.

    Steps to Reproduce Problem

    1. Start Microsoft Access and open the sample database NWIND.MDB.
    2. Open the Categories form in Form view.
    3. Type "Spices" (without the quotation marks) in the Category Name field. Note that the New button on the toolbar becomes available as soon as you type the first letter, "S."
    4. Open the Customers form in Form view.
    5. Enter data in the fields on the form. Note that the New button remains unavailable.
