SYMPTOMS

With your Apple Macintosh connected to two video monitors, if you anchor the Word for the Macintosh Standard toolbar on the inside edge of the secondary monitor and choose the Columns or Insert Table button, you cannot drag the column or table grid onto the primary monitor.

Furthermore, if your secondary monitor is positioned on the left side of your primary monitor and if the Standard toolbar is located somewhere on the secondary monitor, the table or column grids always appear on the right side of the monitor, regardless of the location of the toolbar. As a result, you cannot drag across the table or column grid because you cannot drag the grid over to the primary monitor. In other words, the Insert Table and Columns buttons are nonfunctional when the Standard toolbar is anchored on a secondary monitor that is located on the left side.

CAUSE

By design, Word restricts the Insert Table and Columns button grids to a single monitor. If the two monitors are a different size, color depth, or resolution, the grids would be distorted when they are split across two monitors.

WORKAROUND

Anchor the Standard toolbar somewhere on the primary monitor, or position your secondary monitor on the right side of the primary monitor.
