MSQuery: "Failed to Add Column" Saving to Btrieve Table

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Query, when you save a query as a Btrieve table file, you receive the following error message

Failed to add column: <Column_name>
where Column_name is the name of a memo field in your Microsoft Access table.


CAUSE

You receive this error message when you save a query that contains more than one memo field as a Btrieve table. The error message occurs because a Btrieve table can only contain one note field, the equivalent of a memo field in a Microsoft Access table, a Microsoft FoxPro table, and a dBASE table.


WORKAROUND

To avoid receiving this error message when you save a query as a Btrieve table, make sure that your query only contains one memo field from the table.

Note that you can view the table used to create the query in the View Table Definition dialog box to determine which of the fields in your table are memo fields.
