Envelope May Print Blank to Epson LQ-510 Printer

SYMPTOMS

When you print an envelope from Word 6.0 to an Epson LQ-510, the envelope may display blank in print preview, and it may also print blank.


CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an incompatibility between version 2.11 of the Epson printer driver (EP24.DRV) and version 3.1.4 of the Universal Printer Driver (UNIDRV.DLL).


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 for Windows. This problem was corrected in Word 6.0c for Windows.


RESOLUTION

To print the envelope correctly from Word 6.0, use these steps:

  1. Open the Main Group in Windows Program Manager.


  2. Double-click the Control Panel icon.


  3. Double-click the Printers icon.


  4. Highlight the Epson LQ-510 Printer and choose the Setup button.


  5. Change the Paper Source to another setting (for example, change Manual Feed to Tractor).


  6. Choose the Options button.


  7. Choose the Margins button.


  8. Choose the Default button to change the margin settings.


  9. Choose the OK button


  10. Choose the Close button.


  11. Switch to your Word document.


  12. From the Tools menu, choose Envelopes And Labels.


  13. Choose the Envelope tab.


  14. Choose the Options button.


  15. Select the Printing Options tab.


  16. Change the Feed Method to portrait.


  17. Choose the OK button.


The envelope will now display and print correctly.

NOTE: Changing any of these settings is not necessary with Word versions 6.0a or later for Windows. The default settings will display and print the envelope correctly.
