Microsoft Product Support Services offers a Windows Help file called "Troubleshooting Printing Problems." This Help file is available through Application Note WD1026 ("'Troubleshooting Printing Problems' Help File"). The Help file contains information you can use to diagnose and resolve problems with printing from version 2.x or 6.0 of Microsoft Word for Windows.

To install and run the "Troubleshooting Printing Problems" Help file

  1. Copy the PRINTING.HLP file from the enclosed WD1026 disk to your Word program directory (usually C:\WINWORD). To do this:

    a. Insert the enclosed WD1026 disk in your floppy disk drive.

    b. From the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press

          ENTER
    

             copy <drive>:\printing.hlp <path>
    
          where <drive> is the letter of your floppy disk drive and <path>
          is the location of your Word program directory. For example:
    
             copy a:\printing.hlp c:\winword
    
    

  2. In Windows Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.

  3. In the Command Line box, type the following and choose OK

          winhelp.exe <path>\printing.hlp
    

    where <path> is the location of your Word program directory (that is, the location of the PRINTING.HLP file). For example:

          winhelp.exe c:\winword\printing.hlp
    

The "Troubleshooting Printing Problems" Help file should now be open in Windows Help.
