MXL5: Workbook Created When Inserting Excel Worksheet

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q122066
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a Microsoft Excel 5.0 Worksheet object in another application, a new workbook is created, along with the inserted worksheet object.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs only if Microsoft Excel is not running when you insert the worksheet object into the document in the client application. In this case, Microsoft Excel is started, the Microsoft Excel toolbar becomes the active toolbar and a new workbook, Workbook1, is created. The new workbook is not active.

Note that this behavior does not affect the functionality of the embedded worksheet object. Additionally, if Microsoft Excel is running while you insert a Microsoft Excel 5.0 Worksheet object into a document in another application, a new workbook is not created.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
