To create a WordArt frame that has white text on a black background, you
must format the text color and the frame background color separately. You
set the text color while editing the WordArt frame; however, you set the
background color when WordArt is not running and the frame is selected.

To create a WordArt frame that contains white text on a black background:

1. Click the WordArt button.

2. Select the area for the WordArt frame by dragging the cross-hairs on the
   page using your mouse until the desired size outline box appears.
   Release the mouse button.

3. From the Format menu, choose Shading.

4. Under Style, select the solid white box in the middle of the top row.
   Choose OK.

5. In the Enter Your Text Here dialog box, type the text that you would
   like to appear in the WordArt frame, and choose the Update Display
   button.

6. Select any other formatting you want for the WordArt frame, such as font
   style and special effects.

7. Click on a blank area of the screen away from the WordArt frame. The
   WordArt frame should now appear as a blank, white rectangle.

8. Click the WordArt frame once to select it.

9. From the Format menu, choose Shading. Under Style, select the solid
   black rectangle in the top-right corner. Choose OK.

The WordArt frame will now contain white letters on a black background.
