Last reviewed: September 13, 1996
Article ID: Q122520
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

When you add a view to a worksheet, and the view has the same name as a defined name that exists on the worksheet, the defined name will be deleted. This deletion occurs regardless of whether the defined name is a global or local name.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

A worksheet can have both a defined name and a view with the same name only if the view is created first.
