SYMPTOMS
After you apply Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3 to a Windows NT version
3.1 computer, the Windows NT Backup program (NTBACKUP.EXE) ignores its
Registry settings stored under the following Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Ntbackup
CAUSE
The version of NTBACKUP.EXE installed when you apply Service Pack 2 or
Service Pack 3 expects its configuration information to be stored in a
disk file, namely %SYSTEMROOT%\NTBACKUP.INI.
RESOLUTION
If there is a requirement to modify the configuration parameters for
NTBACKUP after you apply Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3, edit
%SYSTEMROOT%\NTBACKUP.INI instead of modifying the Registry.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 3.1.
