The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for the Macintosh, you may receive a system error when you open a Microsoft Excel 4.0 workbook file if the workbook file contains unbound sheets with file sharing protection passwords. Depending on your operating system version and your type of Macintosh, the error produced will be one of the following: Type 1, Type 11, Bad F-Line Instruction, or Application Unexpectedly Quit.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use either of the following methods: Method 1: Reopen the workbook file in Microsoft Excel 4.0 and remove the passwords from the unbound sheets.Method 2: Open the unbound sheets directly in Microsoft Excel 5.0. Do not open the Microsoft Excel 4.0 workbook file. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the beginning of this article.
