    Article ID: Q123941
    Creation Date: 13-DEC-1994
    Revision Date: 15-OCT-1995

The information in this article applies to:

    • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0 and 5.0a
    • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0
    • Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh, version 4.0

    SUMMARY

If you are running one of the applications listed above on an Apple Power Macintosh, when you bring up the System Info dialog box, the math Coprocessor Type field states "No Coprocessor."

This information is misleading. The Power Macintosh has full math coprocessor functionality on the main processor chip.

    MORE INFORMATION

The math coprocessor for the Power Macintosh is built into the main processor chip. Therefore, the System Info dialog box does not report the math coprocessor as a separate entity.

Note that Microsoft Excel does take full advantage of the built-in coprocessor capabilities of the PowerPC chip.

    MORE INFORMATION

The System Info dialog box contains information about your computer's configuration including extensions, disk storage, fonts, memory, global settings, and existing hardware.

To bring up the System Info dialog box, do the following:

    1. Start Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft PowerPoint.
    2. From the Apple menu, choose About <program name> (where <program name> is the name of the program you are using).
    3. In the About dialog box, choose System Info.
