SUMMARY

Page 4 of the "Microsoft Word Quick Results," manual gives step-by-step instructions for installing Word on the Macintosh. The information in this article supplements the instructions in the "Quick Results" manual.

MORE INFORMATION

Step 1 instructs you to remove any virus-detection utility. To avoid any extension conflicts during installation, We recommend that you restart your Macintosh with all extensions off. To do this, hold down the SHIFT key and choose Restart from the Special menu. Release the SHIFT key when you receive the message "Extensions are off."

After installation is complete, you will be asked to restart your computer. At this time, Word registers with the desktop, but Word does not prompt you to rebuild your desktop. Apple recommends that you rebuild your desktop after the installation of any software. To rebuild your desktop, hold down the COMMAND (Apple) and OPTION keys as you restart your Macintosh. When you are prompted to confirm rebuilding the desktop, release the COMMAND and OPTION keys and then choose Yes.
