MXL5: Excel Remains Open After Printing File From the Finder

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q124093
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

When you print a Microsoft Excel file from the Finder, Microsoft Excel does not close when the file is finished printing.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs only if you are using QuickDraw GX on your Apple Macintosh. Normally, when you print a file from the Finder, the application that was used to create the file opens, and the print dialog box appears. When you choose OK, the application closes. However, when you print a Microsoft Excel file from the Finder, the file closes when it is finished printing, but Microsoft Excel is still running.

This behavior occurs if you select the file in the Finder and choose Print from the File menu, or if you select the file in the Finder and drag the file to the QuickDraw GX printer icon.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

QuickDraw GX is manufactured by Apple Computers, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
