BUG: Illegal Field Type Error When Create a Table from a Table

The information in this article applies to:

• Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, 2.6, 2.6a
• Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.5, 2.5a, 2.5b, 2.6, 2.6a
• Microsoft FoxPro for Macintosh, version 2.5b, 2.5c, 2.6, 2.6a

SYMPTOMS

When creating a table from another table an "Illegal Field Type" error can occur. In the MS-DOS Version, this error occurs if any of the fields are of type Picture or General. In the Windows and Macintosh versions, this error occurs if any of the fields are of type Picture.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

From the Command Window in FoxPro, do the following:

1. Type "Create Table X (Fld1 p)" and press ENTER.

2. Type "Copy Struc Exten to Temp" and press ENTER.

3. Type "Create Backup From Temp" and press ENTER.

After Step 3, you'll receive the following FoxPro Error Message:

   Illegal Field Type...Detected On Field 1
