The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, when you choose the Custom Header or Custom Footer button on the Header/Footer tab in the Page Setup dialog box, and you choose the Font button, the following options are not available: Double Underline, Superscript, and Subscript.

Additionally, if you create a worksheet in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for Windows with a custom header or footer that contains double underline, superscript, or subscript formatting, this formatting does not appear when you open the file in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh. The double underline, superscript, and subscript formatting options are not available for a custom header or footer.

Note that when you format text in a cell on your worksheet by using the Font tab in the Format Cells dialog box, the following options are available in the Underline list:

   None
   Single
   Double
   Single Accounting
   Double Accounting

Additionally, the Superscript and Subscript check boxes are also available on the Font tab in the Format Cells dialog box. However, these options are not available when you format text in a custom header or footer.
