The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

In the versions of Microsoft Excel mentioned above, Visual Basic Help states that you can restore the default document name in a window by setting the Caption property to Empty. However, if you attempt to reset a workbook's window caption using the following statement in a Visual Basic, Applications Edition, macro

   ActiveWindow.Caption = Empty

the window's caption will be stripped (it will not contain the name of the active workbook).

RESOLUTION

To reset a workbook's window caption, use a statement similar to the following sample Visual Basic code.

Sample Visual Basic Code

Application.ExecuteExcel4Macro ("WINDOW.TITLE()")

The window caption will become the name of the workbook under which it has been saved.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
