The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for Windows, versions 5.0, 5.0c
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, when you select multiple worksheets (in group edit mode), and then view the worksheets in print preview, if you use the Setup button in print preview to change a Page Setup option, the option is applied only to the active worksheet in print preview.

Note that in Microsoft Excel version 4.0, when you choose the Setup button in print preview and you are in group edit mode, the Page Setup options apply to all the worksheets in group edit mode.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Excel. When you apply Page Setup options while in print preview, the options are only applied to the active worksheet (even though when you select multiple worksheets, and then view the document in print preview, the selected worksheets appear in print preview).

WORKAROUND

To apply a Page Setup option such as a starting page number or a margin setting while you are editing worksheets in group mode, choose Page Setup from the File menu. The Page Setup option that you select after displaying the Page Setup dialog box from the File menu applies to all selected worksheets.
