XL5: Choosing New from File Menu Does Not Display Dialog Box |
In Microsoft Excel 5.0, the New command on the File menu does not bring up a dialog box unless there are templates other than BOOK.XLT in the XLSTART directory. This behavior is different from Microsoft Excel 4.0.
Earlier versions of Microsoft Excel have separate file types for
worksheets, charts, and macros. The New dialog box allows you to choose
which type to create. However, in Microsoft Excel versions 5.0 and later,
all new documents are contained in the workbook format.
In Microsoft Excel 5.0, if templates other than BOOK.XLT do exist in
XLSTART, choosing New will display a dialog box that prompts you to select
one of the available templates. Note that when there are templates in
XLSTART, the New command on the File menu changes to "New..." (that is, it
is followed by three ellipsis dots).
