The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, if you select a module sheet within a group selection, and you press COMMAND+R or the F5 key to run a procedure in the module, the procedure does not run.

CAUSE

Normally, you can run a procedure in a Visual Basic module by clicking in the procedure you want to run, and pressing the COMMAND+R or the F5 key. However, this method does not work when the Visual Basic module that contains the procedure that you want to run is within a group selection.

Note that this method works in Microsoft Excel 5.0 for Windows even when the module that contains the procedure is in a group selection.

WORKAROUND

To run a procedure while the module that contains the procedure is in a group selection, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: Run the procedure from the Macro dialog box by choosing Macro

          from the Tools menu.

Method 2: Run the procedure by clicking in the procedure, and choosing the
Run Macro button from the Visual Basic toolbar.

Method 3: Cancel the group selection by selecting a sheet tab that is not
included in the group selection. You can then run the procedure
by clicking the mouse cursor in the procedure, and pressing
          COMMAND+R or the F5 key.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
