SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Query, when you use a Microsoft FoxPro or dBASE data source to add a table to a query, the directory that appears in the Add Tables dialog box may be the active folder instead of the folder that you specified in the Database Directory box when you set up the data source.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you are using Apple System version 7.5.

When you configure a data source using the ODBC Setup Control Panel, you can specify a directory that contains your database files by adding the path to the Database Directory box. Normally, the folder that you enter in this box appears in the Add Tables dialog box when you use the data source in Microsoft Query. However, if you are running Apple System version 7.5, the Database Directory is ignored, and the current working directory is always selected in the Add Tables dialog box when you use the data source to add a table to your query.

Note that if you leave the Database Directory box empty, then the current working directory is used when you use this data source, even if you are using a version of Apple System software other than 7.5.

WORKAROUNDS

To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: select the folder that contains your database files in the Add

          Tables dialog box. Note that when you select a folder in the Add
          Tables dialog box or the Open Query dialog box, this becomes the
          default working directory for that session of Microsoft Query.

          the Folder Which Contains The Application option.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
