The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSIf you create a pie chart using Chart Wizard, where the selected pie chart is the third pie type (with one slice of the pie exploded) and the range of cells selected includes text labels, labels for the pie slices may appear inside the chart. This behavior occurs even though the third pie chart type does not include labels in its default type. Also, the label for the exploded slice cannot be selected, which means that you cannot delete it.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs when you select the range of cells and use the ChartWizard to create the chart. ChartWizard contains labels for the pie chart values (even though the third pie chart format is not supposed to contain chart labels). The labels appear because in Step 4 of 5 of Chart Wizard, there is an option to use the first column of data for chart labels and it is the default option.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, do the following:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Excel, version 4.0. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel, version 5.0.
