MXL5: Type 1 Error/Hang Saving File with 32-Bit Addressing On |
In Microsoft Excel 5.0, when you save a file in the Microsoft Excel Workbook file format on a Macintosh that has 32-bit addressing turned on, your computer may stop responding, or Microsoft Excel may close unexpectedly.
This behavior occurs if you entered a name that has 31 characters in the
User Name box on the General tab of the Options dialog box, and the Prompt
For Summary Info check box is selected. For example, if you enter the name
"This is an extra loooooong name" in the User Name box, and you select the
Prompt for Summary Info check box, this problem occurs when you save your
workbook if 32-bit addressing is turned on.
Note that this problem does not occur on a Power Macintosh computer.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 5.0a.
