Cannot Apply Small Caps or All Caps to Paragraph Numbers

Last reviewed: August 4, 1997
Article ID: Q125894
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0

SYMPTOMS

When you apply Small Caps or All Caps formatting to a paragraph that has automatic numbers, the numbering doesn't change format. The selected text shows the new formatting, but the automatic numbers do not.

CAUSE

Formatting of the automatic numbering is controlled by the Bullets And Numbering dialog box. This formatting overrides any formatting you apply directly to the paragraph.

Through the Bullets and Numbering dialog box, you can apply several character formats. However, Small Caps and All Caps cannot be applied to the automatic numbers.
