Look at the underside of the tape drive; the compression chip is located on the underside of the printed circuit board. Any compression chip with the following marking has the problem:

XXXXXXXX is the lot number. Chips without the lot number do not have
the problem.

specific chip is faulty. The kit contains one DAT test tape with usage
