    • Apple System 7.1.2
    • Apple System 7.5
    • Apple QuickDraw GX

    SUMMARY

When you are troubleshooting printing problems on the Macintosh, you may need to disable QuickDraw GX to see if the problem occurs under the standard (QuickDraw) printing architecture.

You can disable QuickDraw GX either from the Extensions Manager (which comes with System 7.5) or by removing the necessary file(s) from the Extensions folder:

    • If you are using the Extensions Manager control panel, clear the QuickDraw GX option and restart your computer.
    • If you are not using Extensions Manager, you can remove QuickDraw GX from the Extensions folder (place it on the Desktop or in a folder other than the System folder) and then restart your computer.

QuickDraw GX should now be disabled.

NOTE: It is a good idea to also remove the ATM GX control panel when you test printing issues. Otherwise, ATM GX will still be active under the standard QuickDraw printing architecture and may affect how documents are printed.

    MORE INFORMATION

QuickDraw GX is the Apple printing architecture that ships with System 7.5. QuickDraw GX is a supplement to QuickDraw, the original printing architecture for the display and printing engine that ships with the Macintosh.
