SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, when you use the MAIL.EDIT.MAILER function in a Microsoft Excel 4.0 macro, you receive a macro error at the cell that contains this function if the name that you are sending the mailer to contains an apostrophe character (') or a quotation mark character (").
CAUSEThis behavior occurs only when you use this function in a macro to edit an Apple PowerTalk mailer, and the to_recipients argument contains an apostrophe or a quotation mark. You can still edit the mailer manually, using the Mailer button, located above the vertical scroll bar. This problem occurs, for example, if you run a macro that contains one of the following commands:
=MAIL.EDIT.MAILER("Jan's Mac")
=MAIL.EDIT.MAILER("""MacJohn""")
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you can use the MAIL.EDIT.MAILER?() form of the function to display the Mailer dialog box and edit the mailer information.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem with Microsoft Excel and Apple PowerTalk. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATIONIf the PowerTalk system extension is on your computer, the functionality provided by this extension replaces the workbook mailing and routing functionality available with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Mail. You can use the MAIL.EDIT.MAILER function in a Microsoft Excel 4.0 macro to edit a PowerTalk mailer attached to the active document. This function is equivalent to choosing the Mailer button; the button that appears at the top of the vertical scroll bar when a mailer is attached to the current document. However, if your User Name contains an apostrophe character, or a quotation mark, you receive a macro error when you run the macro that contains this function. PowerTalk is manufactured by Apple Computer Inc., a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
