SYMPTOMS

Cutting a numeric entry from a formatted field in the database Form view resets the formatting for that field to General. Only the current record is affected; the field entries in other records retain their original formatting. Deleting or clearing the entry does not cause loss of formatting.

RESOLUTION

After cutting a numeric entry, the number format must be manually reapplied:
  1. From the Format menu, choose Number.
  2. Reapply the previous format (that is, date, currency, and so on).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works version 3.0, 3.0a, and 3.0b for Windows. This problem no longer occurs in Works 4.0 and later.

MORE INFORMATION

If a database field is formatted as a date, currency, or other format, and the entry in the field is cut from Form view, the next entry placed in that field will have a General format. If the entry is pasted back in, it is still in a General format; however, if the cut is undone, it retains its original formatting. The database List view does not exhibit this behavior.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open the sample file WINGLIST.WDB from the Samples directory.
  2. In Form view, select the Date Entered field.
  3. From the Edit menu, choose Cut.
  4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste. The entry has been reformatted to General, and is now appearing as the serial number of the original date entry.
