WD6: Internet Assistant Can't Use Find Command Within FTP Object

Q126363

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

After connecting to an FTP Uniform Resource Locator (URL), when you attempt to find something within that FTP OLE object, you will get Word's Find dialog box instead of Internet Assistant's dialog box, and you will not be able to find your text string. This behavior occurs in the following situations:

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because of a design limitation in Word. Word's Find dialog box does not support searching within an OLE object. If the FTP OLE object is not active, you can use the Find command to search within the document only.

WORKAROUND

To find information within the FTP object, do one of the following:

Method 1: Double-click on the FTP object to open it (the object displays with a slashed or hatched border), then from the Edit menu, choose Find.

Method 2: Click the right mouse button over the object (when the object does not display with the hatched border) and choose Open InternetWorks Internet Assistant Document from the shortcut menu. In InternetWorks, you can use the Find button on the toolbar or the Find command from the Edit menu. To return to the document, from the File menu, choose Exit & Return to <Document>.
