Cannot Set Paper Orientation in Page Setup for StyleWriter II

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q126795
The information in this article applies to:

- Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, version 5.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel, if you are using an Apple StyleWriter printer with version 1.2 of the StyleWriter II printer driver, you cannot set the Orientation option with a Visual Basic macro or with a Microsoft Excel 4.0 macro.

Note that if you attempt to set the Orientation option by using a macro, you do not receive a macro error; however, running such a macro has no effect.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because in Microsoft Excel version 5.0 for the Macintosh, if you are using a StyleWriter II printer with version 1.2 of the StyleWriter II printer driver, the Paper Orientation options (Portrait and Landscape) are disabled in Page Setup.

WORKAROUND

To set the paper orientation for the StyleWriter II, do the following:

   1. From the File menu, choose Page Setup.

   2. Choose Options.

   3. Change the Paper Orientation in the printer driver setup and choose
      OK.

   4. Choose OK in the Page Setup dialog box.

Note that the Orientation options on the Page tab in the Page Setup dialog box are still unavailable, and there is no visible indication that the orientation has changed. Additionally, when you use the steps above to change the orientation, the change affects all other applications that use this driver.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh version 5.0a.

MORE INFORMATION

The StyleWriter II printer driver version 1.2 is installed when you install some versions of Apple Macintosh system software, including System 7.5.
