PRJ4: No Prompt to Save Macro on Exit While Recorder Is Running

Q126812

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you exit Microsoft Project by using the Microsoft Project Control menu while the macro recorder is running, you are not prompted to save the macro that is being recorded.

CAUSE

When you exit Microsoft Project by choosing Exit from the File menu while the macro recorder is running, a dialog box appears with the following message:

Do you want to save the recorded macro?
However, if you exit Microsoft Project by double-clicking the Microsoft Project Control menu button or by choosing Close from the Microsoft Project Control menu while a macro is being recorded, Microsoft Project is closed and does not prompt you to save the macro that is currently being recorded, and the macro is not saved. This behavior occurs when the recorded macro is being stored in the GLOBAL.MPT file. If the macro is being stored in the local project file, you are prompted to save the file upon exiting though the message doesn't note that you would also be saving a macro.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Exit Microsoft Project by choosing the Exit command from the File menu instead of using the Microsoft Project Control menu.

Method 2

Stop the macro recorder by choosing Stop Recording from the Tools menu before you exit Microsoft Project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
