PRJ4: How to Use Groupwise with MS Project Workgroup Messaging

Q126996

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

The Novell Groupwise mail system, version 4.1, is MAPI compliant and can be made to work with workgroup messaging for Microsoft Project 4.0 for Windows.

NOTE: Microsoft Project 4.1 and Microsoft Project 98 work with Groupwise 5.0 and later. Windows Messaging must first be installed before Groupwise. Microsoft Project must be installed last. For resources, WGSetup can be installed in place of Microsoft Project for the worgroup functionality for resources.

MORE INFORMATION

To have Microsoft Project and Groupwise mail work together, follow these steps:

  1. Obtain the Workgroup Message Handler for Lotus cc:Mail and Windows NT Mail and follow the setup instructions that come with it. For information about how to obtain the Workgroup Message Handler, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
    Q119499 PRJ4: Workgroup Message Handler for Lotus cc:Mail and NT Mail
    NOTE: The Workgroup Message Handler is specifically designed to work with cc:Mail and Windows NT Mail; however, continue to step 2 to have the message handler work with Groupwise mail as well.

  2. After you have completed the installation procedure, open the Win.ini file in a text editor (such as Windows Notepad), and edit it as follows:

    1. Locate the following three lines and remove them from the [mail] section:

    2.
                  MAPIDLL=<WINDOWS>\SYSTEM\MAPIVIM.DLL
                  MAPIVIMLastAB=0
                  MAPIVIMDisableABScan=1
    3. If there is an "SMI=1" entry, remove it.

    4. If the line "MAPI=1" does not exist, add it.

  3. Restart Windows.

The Workgroup messaging functionality should now work in Microsoft Project.

NOTE: When working in the Groupwise Inbox with a message, you must open the attachment and not view it (the default behavior is view). To open the attachment, click View Attachment on the File menu. Click the attached MPM file and click Open. You can also click the attachment button (looks like a paper clip), click the attached MPM file, and then click Open.
