  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

If Microsoft Excel, if you filter a database using either the AutoFilter feature or the Advanced Filter (with filtering in-place) feature, the Find command (on the Edit menu) may not work on the filtered list. It will find the first occurrence of the string you are trying to find, but it will not find any other occurrences in the filtered list or on your worksheet.

WORKAROUND

In order to have the Find feature work on a filtered database, you must first select just the visible cells in the range of cells from the filtered list in which you want to find your string. To select just the visible cells in a filtered list:

  1. Select all of the cells in the filtered list.

  2. From the Edit menu, choose GoTo.

  3. In the Go To dialog box, click the Special button.

  4. In the Go To Special dialog box, select Visible Cells Only, and then click the OK button. The Find feature will now work properly.
