PRJ: Leveling Error with Resources Assigned to Summaries

Q127172

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Project will incorrectly return a leveling error message if you have a resource assigned at zero units both to a summary task and to three or more subtasks of that summary task.

CAUSE

The leveling algorithm incorrectly assumes that this is an overallocation conflict that cannot be resolved.

WORKAROUND

If you want to show that a resource is responsible for a Summary task group, you may want to remove the Resource assigned at zero units and then place the resource name in the task Notes field.

To insert a Note, click on the Attach Note icon on the Standard toolbar.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
