SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Excel, when you open a file that contains a custom AutoFilter, the custom AutoFilter information may be incorrect if the file was created or saved in Microsoft Excel on a different platform.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs for example if you create a custom AutoFilter on a worksheet in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, and you open the file in Microsoft Excel for Windows. The incorrect filter information that you encounter may include an incorrect comparison operator, as well as an incorrect filter value. For example, the custom filter value may be displayed in the Custom AutoFilter dialog box as 43588.59 instead of the expected value 3 when you open a Microsoft Excel for Windows worksheet in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, or the value 3.0596823890472E-308 may be displayed instead of the expected value 2 when you open a Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh worksheet in Microsoft Excel for Windows. When you open a Microsoft Excel for Macintosh worksheet in Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, the custom filter value may appear blank instead of the expected value. NOTE: The value that is displayed may vary depending on how your computer is configured. The custom filter appears to be applied correctly when you open the file; that is, the same results appear in the filtered list even when the values in the custom AutoFilter dialog box appear incorrectly.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel version 5.0a for the Macintosh.
