SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Project, the MS Project Help file may appear with the Microsoft Project application icon, instead of with the Microsoft Help file icon as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs only when you perform a workstation installation of Microsoft Project. When you install Microsoft Project to your hard disk, the icon used for the MS Project Help file contains a picture of the Microsoft Project icon and the Microsoft Help icon (a question mark).

When you perform a workstation installation of Microsoft Project, the Setup program creates an alias in the Microsoft Project folder for the Microsoft Project file, and the MS Project Help file so that you can run these files from the network drive. However, the icon that is created for MS Project Help is the Microsoft Project application icon, instead of the MS Help icon as expected.

Note that when Microsoft Project is the active application you can still run MS Project Help by pressing the HELP key or by choosing Microsoft Project Help from the Help menu.
