Q128378

------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this article applies to: - Microsoft Publisher versions 2.0, 2.0a ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY ======= The Network setup mode of Microsoft Publisher does not allow for a workstation installation on the server itself. There are two ways, however, that you can have a workstation installation on a server and also allow that server to run Microsoft Publisher as a workstation. MORE INFORMATION ================ Method 1: Run Setup /a, Mark \MSPUB Read-Only --------------------------------------------- Install the Administrative setup (setup /a), then mark the MSPUB directory as read only. You can access Publisher on the server now by double-clicking MSPUB.EXE. Method 2: On the File Server ---------------------------- To use Publisher on the file server, do the following: 1. Run the Administrative setup from a workstation to a file server (see pages 382 through 385 of the Publisher user's manual): a. Connect to a server. b. On the workstation in Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu. c. Type "a:\setup.exe /a" (without the quotation marks) in the command line. d. Share the MSPUB directory on the server. 2. Install Publisher on the workstations using the Node (workstation) setup: a. Connect to the server. b. On the workstation in Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu. c. Type "f:\mspub\setup.exe /n" (without the quotation marks), assuming in this case that F: is the server). 3. Install Publisher on the server using the Node setup: a. On the server in Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu. b. Type "c:\mspub\setup.exe /n" (without the quotation marks) in the command line. This allows the server to install a workstation installation as well as provide services to the other workstations as a server. NOTE: Install the workstation on the file server last. After installing the Node setup on the file server the Administrative setup will no longer be available to set up other workstations until another Administrative installation is made to the file server.
