PUB: Incorrect Printing with ENCAD NovaJet III Plotter

SYMPTOMS
========

You may see unwanted white spaces when printing from Publisher using the
ENCAD NovaJet III Plotter.

CAUSE
=====

When you print with the ENCAD NovaJet III plotter, printer setting changes
you made using Microsoft Publisher will be ignored.

STATUS
======

Microsoft is researching this problem, and we will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND
==========

To print using the setting preferences defined in Publisher's Print Setup
dialog box, you must also change the settings using Windows Control Panel.
The following procedure explains how to change the printer settings in
Control Panel for the NovaJet III, and then create and print a banner in
Publisher:

1. From the Main group, select Control Panel and choose Printers.

2. Verify the Default Printer is set to the NovaJet III and choose the
   Setup button.

3. In the Setup dialog box select the Landscape option under Orientation;
   in the Paper Size list, select User Defined; and in the Paper Source
   list, select Roll Feed.

4. Select the Options button and select the Print TrueType As Graphics
   check box, then choose the OK button. Choose the Close button to exit
   the Printers dialog box.

5. In Publisher, create a banner by either of the following methods:

   - From the File menu, choose Create New Publication. Use the PageWizard
      Assistant.

    - From the File menu, choose Create New Publication. Choose the Start
      From Scratch button, and select Banner from the Select A Page Layout
      list. Choose OK. (From the Page menu, and choose Page Setup; under
      Select A Publication Layout, select the Special Size option; under
      Choose A Publication Size, select Custom Banner. Verify Page
      Orientation is set to Landscape and choose OK to exit.)

6. From the Layout menu, choose Layout Guides. Change the Margin guides to
   0 inches for all sides. Choose OK to exit.

7. From the File menu, choose Print Setup. Under Orientation, select
   Landscape; in the Paper Size list, select User Defined; and in the Paper
   Source list, select Roll Feed. Choose OK.

8. Group the entire banner and resize the banner so that it is slightly
   smaller than the layout guides. (See page 321 of the "Microsoft
   Publisher User's Guide" for more information on grouping objects.)

9. From the File Menu, choose Print to print the banner.
