SYMPTOMS
After you perform a workstation installation of Microsoft Project, the
application may be licensed to the wrong user. That is, the name that
appears may be incorrect in the following screens:
- The screen that appears when you start Microsoft Project
- The About Microsoft Project dialog box
- The Summary Information dialog box
- The General tab of the Options dialog box
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you perform a mode 2 administrative installation
(so users can run Microsoft Project from the network server), and you then
perform a workstation installation to install Microsoft Project to your
computer. When you run Setup, a dialog box appears with your name (if you
have installed other Microsoft applications) or it asks you to enter your
name. However, your name (or the name that you enter) does not become the
name to which the workstation installation of Microsoft Project is
licensed.
When you start Microsoft Project, the name that appears under This Product
Is Licensed To is the name that was entered during the administrative
installation, instead of the name that you entered when you performed the
workstation installation.
The administrator's name also appears when you choose About Microsoft
Project from the Apple menu. Additionally, this name appears in the User
Name box on the General tab of the Options dialog box, and becomes the
Author name for all new projects that you create.
WORKAROUND
To change the name that appears in the
User Name box in the
Options dialog box, and the
Author name in each project (on the
Document tab in the
Summary Info dialog box), do the following:
- From the Tools menu, choose Options.
- Select the General tab.
- In the User Name box, enter your name. Click OK.
NOTE: You cannot change the name that appears in the
About Microsoft Project dialog box, or on the Microsoft Project startup screen.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft
Project listed above.
