SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install a Word 6.0 for Windows language proofing tools package from Alki(R) Software on a computer that has Word 6.0 for Windows NT installed, you may receive the following error message

Microsoft Word 6.0 for Windows must be installed before the proofing tools can be installed.

followed by another error message:

Setup was canceled before it could completely install <Language version> proofing tools. If there are problems, correct them and run Setup again.

CAUSE

The language proofing tools for Word 6.0 for Windows Setup program looks for the header of the 16-bit Winword.exe file. When the Setup program cannot read the header of the 32-bit Winword.exe file, you receive the error message.

RESOLUTION

Manually install the language proofing tools package from Alki Software for Office 97 for Windows. Contact Alki Software for installation instructions.
