SUMMARY

Works creates a temporary file when it converts word processing files. This file is stored in the MSWORKS directory, rather than the directory specified by the Set Temp statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

MORE INFORMATION

This occurs with all word processing conversions except .TXT files.

This process was changed in Microsoft Works version 3.0a for Windows. Works 3.0a stores these temporary files in the temporary directory specified by the Set Temp statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

NOTE: The following error may be displayed when attempting to convert a word processing file using Works 3.0a
Cannot find file or file already open: <path>\~wksxxxx.tmp
where <path> is the path to the temporary directory, ~wksxxxx.tmp is the name of the temporary file, and xxxx is a combination of numbers and/or letters that varies. To resolve this problem, upgrade to Works for Windows 3.0b.
