SYMPTOMS

After you install the Windows Sound System, you may receive the following error message when you try to start Quick Recorder:

Unable to start Quick Recorder as an OLE server. Run Windows Sound System Setup again.

CAUSE

The REG.DAT file may not have been updated correctly, or may have been damaged.

RESOLUTION

To correct this error, either re-install the Windows Sound System soft- ware, or rebuild the default REG.DAT file. For information about how to rebuild the default REG.DAT file, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
