IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, you should first make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat). Both are hidden files in the Windows folder.

SUMMARY

By default, double-clicking The Microsoft Network icon opens MSN Central without The Microsoft Network Explorer. To open The Microsoft Network Explorer, you must click The Microsoft Network icon with the right mouse button and then click Explore on the menu that appears. You can change this behavior by editing the registry so that double-clicking The Microsoft Network icon opens The Microsoft Network Explorer.

To open The Microsoft Network Explorer when you double-click The Microsoft Network icon, edit the following key in the registry:

   HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00028B00-0000-0000-C000-
   000000000046}\Shell\Default
