SYMPTOMS

When you change an environment variable in the System tool in Control Panel, the Scheduler service (AT command) does not recognize the change.

Program Manager and the System tool in Control Panel get the environment variables from the registry. The Scheduler service inherits the environment from the service controller, which obtains the environment only once, at startup.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, shutdown and restart Windows NT.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
