Q131234

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

In the Gantt Chart Wizard, if you choose No when prompted to display critical tasks while creating a Custom Gantt Chart, Microsoft Project will not draw rolled up bars for critical tasks.

RESOLUTION

To have a rolled-up bar appear for both critical tasks and non-critical tasks, use any of the following methods:

Method 1

This procedure is useful if the color of the rolled-up bar for all tasks will be the same (that is, there is no indication of critical versus noncritical).

  1. From the Format menu, choose Bar Styles.

  2. Edit the Rolled Up Task line's Show For ... Tasks entry to read Normal, Rolled up, Not Summary.

  3. Choose OK.

Method 2

This procedure allows you to distinguish between critical and noncritical rolled up bars.

  1. From the Format menu, choose Bar Styles.

  2. Select the Rolled Up Task line. Choose Cut Row.

  3. Choose Paste Row twice to make a duplicate row.

  4. Select the duplicate, and rename it to Rolled Up Critical.

  5. Change the bar's color to Red.

  6. In the bar's Show for...Tasks column, replace the Noncritical parameter with Critical.

The entry should read Normal, Critical, Rolled Up, Not Summary.

  7. Choose OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
