SYMPTOMS

In a Works database, you receive an error message when you attempt to use a formula containing a reference to a field name that starts with a number.

Some of the possible error messages include:

Operator missing or not valid.

Reference not valid or wrong operand type.

The formula is not typed correctly.

The formula contains an error.

WORKAROUND

To use the field name and avoid the error message, do one of the following.

Method 1

Enclose the field name in the formula with single quotation marks.

Method 2 Change the database field name. To change the field name, do the following:

Works 2.0x or 3.0x:

On the Edit menu in List View of the database, click Field Name.
Type a name that doesn't begin with a number.
