Publisher Setup Fails Under Saber Menu LAN
Q131602
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SYMPTOMS
========
When you try to install Publisher 2.0 on a system using Saber Menu LAN,
Publisher Setup will fail on Disk 4, and you may receive the following
error message:
Cannot write to CTL3DV2.DLL.
CAUSE
=====
The Saber Menu system uses a custom shell called SMENU.EXE. This shell uses
the file CTL3DV2.DLL to produce 3-D effects in the dialog boxes. Publisher
Setup will detect that the CTL3DV2.DLL file is in use and halt the setup.
RESOLUTION
==========
1. In Program Manager, choose Run from the File menu.
2. On the command line, type "system.ini" (without the quotation marks),
and then choose OK. This will open the SYSTEM.INI file in Notepad.
3. Change the Shell= line in the [BOOT] section from
Shell=SMENU.EXE
to:
Shell=PROGMAN.EXE
4. From the File menu, choose Save.
5. From the File menu, choose Exit.
6. Restart Windows and install Publisher.
7. If you want to return to using the Saber Menu shell, repeat this
procedure, but reverse the lines in step 3.
