XL5: State of Normal Font Check Box Not as Expected

SYMPTOMS

If you select a range of cells in which some cells have a font style of Regular and others have a font style of Italic, Bold, or Bold Italic, the Normal Font check box may be empty (cleared) rather than mixed (a gray pattern in the check box).

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you change to another tab in the Format Cells dialog box and then change back to the Font tab.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
